All About Fotona's New Pigmented Lesions Treatment

The majority of us have brown spots or pigmentation somewhere on our skin. You may know these as freckles, birthmarks, moles, and age or sunspots. Some people are born with them, while others acquire them as part of the natural aging process, due to hormonal changes or other conditions.

Regardless of the underlying cause or presentation, these spots are referred to as pigmented lesions. Our bodies naturally produce melanin, a dark pigment that (when in overabundance) presents as darkened spots or areas of your skin.

Although the majority of pigmented lesions are small, hidden or mild, some pigmented lesions can have a real impact on quality of life, taking away from your natural beauty, lowering confidence, and more.

At Medrein Health we utilize FDA-approved, innovative laser technology to safely and effectively lighten and remove unsightly or bothersome pigmented lesions

Types of Pigmented Lesions That Are Often Good Candidates for Laser Treatment Include:

  • Hyper-pigmentation from hormones
  • Hyper-pigmentation from sun exposure
  • Hyper-pigmentation from injury or damage to the skin caused by or from: acne, cuts or abrasions, rashes, and more.
  • Keratoses
  • Lentigines
  • Freckles
  • Nevus of Ota (blue hyperpigmentation)
  • Dermatosis Papulosis Nigra

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

This is a question many of our Southlake, TX patients have. We know that no one looks forward to having a treatment or procedure done, you look forward to the results.

This is why we invest heavily in industry-leading technology and best-in-class medical lasers, employing proven protocols carried out by experts, helping you get better results faster.

In many cases, superficial pigmentation can be eliminated in a single treatment. However, the number of treatments required will depend on a variety of factors including but not limited to the size of the pigmented lesion(s), depth of pigmentation, and the amount of melanin needing removal.

What is Treatment Like?

Treatment is non-invasive, with your clinician using a hand directed laser to apply light to the areas designated for treatment. Deepening on the area of the pigmented lesion, you may be seated or laying down.

Will It Hurt?

Nobody likes the thought of pain, which is why we do everything we can to help you feel calm, comfortable and relaxed from start to finish. Although laser treatment does result in mild discomfort, we are able to provide you with topical anesthetics if needed.

What About Side Effects or Downtime?

Although some redness and/or tenderness is possible post-treatment, most patients report these symptoms resolving within 2-4 hours. Some individuals may also experience slight swelling for 1-2 days in the treated area.

As for downtime, the good news is that there is none. You will likely be advised to stay out of the sun and refrain from tanning booths or sprays as you heal. But aside from that, you are generally able to return to daily activities as per usual immediately following treatment.
