Medical Weight Loss Q & A

What is Semiglutide and how does it help me lose weight?

Semiglutide was orginally made to treat diabetes! It even helps prevent heart attacks and protects kidney functions on top of the weight loss benefits. It is a medication that increases insulin which is what helps with diabetes but in higher doses it acts on centers in the brain to suppress appetite. This is an injection that you'll need to receive once a week, starting with a low dose and gradually increasing when needed.

Why is it such a challenge to lose weight and keep it off?

The answer to this simple question is incredibly complex. Several factors make it difficult to lose weight and maintain those results.

Our modern food supply is a big part of the problem. Fast food is available around the clock, and highly processed foods with confusing labeling pack grocery stores.

The modern American lifestyle also shares some of the blame. Many people spend hours each day in front of screens, whether at school, at work, or for entertainment, leaving little time to get outdoors and stay active. High levels of stress and poor sleep quality complicate things even further.

Researchers know is that weight loss is more than a simple calculation of calories in/calories out. There are a multitude of reasons why so many people struggle with their weight.

What health risks do I face if I am overweight or obese?

Few things carry greater health risks than carrying a significant volume of extra weight. Being overweight or obese strains virtually every organ and system in your body.

Some of the health risks that increase when you are overweight or obese include:

  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Aneurysm
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Cognitive issues
  • Depression
  • Dementia

These are just a few health problems with a clear link to carrying excess weight. Losing just a small percentage of your body weight can dramatically reduce your risk level.

How is medical weight loss different?

There’s no doubt that you can drop pounds through fad diets and extreme exercise plans. But maintaining those results is nearly impossible, and you risk putting your body under considerable strain using these methods.

Medical weight loss takes a different approach, placing your health as the central focus. Dr. Mikki begins with a comprehensive physical and lab testing to learn more about your current bodily function.

Next, a customized nutrition plan helps you learn how to properly nourish your body in  an enjoyable and sustainable way. You’ll also learn how to get plenty of exercise without pushing your body beyond healthy limits.

Medications might play a role in your weight loss journey, but drug therapy is never the sole approach. When you’re ready to begin, call or click to book that first visit today.
