Non-surgical Rhinoplasty Q & A

What is nonsurgical rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is the medical term for a plastic surgery procedure that alters the size or shape of your nose, more commonly called a “nose job.” Nonsurgical rhinoplasty is a treatment that uses dermal fillers or polydioxanone (PDO) threads to change the appearance of your nose.

Surgical rhinoplasty is a serious procedure that involves removing a portion of your bone or other tissue. Cartilage is removed or even added after being harvested from another area of your body. Many procedures require general anesthesia.

The recovery process is lengthy, with numerous limitations on how active you can be for weeks or even months after your procedure. Smiling, laughing, and even blowing your nose can cause problems after surgical rhinoplasty.

What happens during nonsurgical rhinoplasty?

The first step is a consultation to discuss what you hope to achieve through treatment. Dr. Mikki examines your nose to determine if nonsurgical rhinoplasty is a good fit for your needs.

Dermal fillers offer the chance to temporarily enhance the contouring of your nose. Fillers can achieve the following:

  • Smooth lumps or bumps
  • Enhance the tip of your nose
  • Add volume to your nose
  • Correct a slightly crooked nose
  • Camouflage a bump on the bridge of your nose

Dr. Mikki uses a small syringe and needle to place the filler material into the areas of your nose where alterations are desired.

Another option involves using PDO threads to lift your nasal tissues. Each thread is placed using a needle and “grabs” tissue. PDO threads are a great option for lifting a drooping nose tip, elevating your nasal bridge, or straightening or adding height to your nose contouring.

How long do the results of nonsurgical rhinoplasty last?

Both dermal fillers and PDO threads eventually break down within your skin. Your body then processes and eliminates the material through your lymphatic system.

You can expect to enjoy improved nose contouring for multiple months before your fillers or PDO threads begin to break down. Both treatments prompt your body to create new collagen tissue, which remains in place long after the fillers or threads dissolve.

If you like the results of your nonsurgical rhinoplasty, you can always schedule another round of treatment once your results begin to fade.
