PDO Thread Lift Q & A

What are PDO thread lifts?

A polydioxanone (PDO) thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses tiny dissolvable sutures to lift and tighten your skin. This treatment is a great way to achieve impressive results without the expense, recovery time, and risks of plastic surgery.

A PDO thread lift can improve contouring in the following areas:

  • Jawline
  • Face
  • Neck
  • Eyes
  • Nose
  • Body

The mid-face, or cheek area, is among the most popular sites for thread lifts and can tighten sagging skin and lessen the appearance of folds and creases.

The PDO threads are made of a biodegradable type of polyester. These threads are nothing new; they’ve been used in medical settings since the 1980s. There are several types of threads to choose from, including options that are smooth and others covered in tiny barbs or made of two threads twisted together.

Dr. Mikki selects the thread type that offers the best fit for your needs. Medrein Health & Aesthetics offers the highest quality PDO thread in the industry, backed by a strong safety track record.

What happens during a PDO thread lift?

When you arrive for your procedure, the first step involves cleansing your face and administering a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable. Dr. Mikki uses a needle to create a small opening in your skin, inserting a thin medical tube called a cannula.

The PDO thread is within the cannula, and Dr. Mikki anchors the end of that thread before gently removing the cannula, leaving the thread in place. Trimming the end of the thread completes the process.

How long do the results of a PDO thread lift last?

It takes a long time for the thread to dissolve fully and for your body to process and eliminate the materials. PDO thread lifts work in two ways, by manually lifting your skin and tissue and by prompting the creation of new collagen and other tissues.

Your results can last up to two years. Many people prefer to combine a PDO thread lift with dermal fillers or Botox® to create even more dramatic results.
