What is Bellafill?
Bellafill is a long lasting preformed collagen that’s injected to treat wrinkles, acne scars, and volume loss.
Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers like Juvederm or Restylane, Bellafill is made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres suspended in a collagen gel. It is FDA-approved and can last up to 5 years or more.
Benefits of Bellafill
Bellafill not just improves wrinkles and fine lines but also restores collagen production. This prompt-acting dermal filler provides substantial benefits, including:
- Firmer, smoother skin
- Reduced appearance of aging signs
- Improved under-eye lines and crow’s feet
- Enhanced skin elasticity
- Reduction of acne scars
- Volume restoration in the cheeks
The Bellafill Treatment at Medrein Health & Aesthetics
Bellafill requires two appointments with an eight-month interval between them.
Our Bellafill treatment includes the following steps:
- Consultation
Upon your arrival at our med spa for Bellafill treatment, our aesthetic physician, Dr. Haritha Mikkilineni, will work with you to understand your cosmetic concerns and goals and ensure you are the right candidate for Bellafill. She will also examine the severity of your aesthetic concerns to determine the appropriate injection dosage.
- Skin Preparation
Dr. Mikki will thoroughly clean your skin and may apply a numbing cream/spray if needed. People with sensitive skin may experience a tingling sensation during the procedure. Besides tingling sensations, Bellafill does not cause any intense pain or discomfort.
- Application
Dr. Mikki will ask you to lie down to inject the appropriate doses of Bellafill into the targeted areas using fine, sterilized needles. You can return home immediately after the injection, as the procedure has no downtime.
Bellafill for Long Lasting Natural Looking Results
Bellafill is an FDA-approved dermal fillers made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. When injected, the collagen in Bellafill immediately elevates the skin, resulting in firmer, smoother-looking skin. Over time, the collagen is reabsorbed while the microspheres stay in place, creating a protective base to enhance collagen production in your body.
The new collagen formation helps tighten skin, reducing wrinkles and fine lines, resulting in smoother and youthful skin. Bellafill is also used to fill in deep acne scars (adding volume to them), thus smoothing out the scars and the surrounding skin to reduce the appearance of scars.
Unlike other dermal fillers that often dissolve in your body within 12-24 months, Bellafill corrects facial creases and other aging signs for a plump, youthful appearance that lasts for years, not months. In fact, Bellafill can last up to 5 years when used to correct skin folds and one year when used to improve acne scars.

FAQs
Is Bellafill right for me?
Though Bellafill suits all skin tones and types, it is not recommended for those who are:
- Allergic to bovine collagen (Bellafill) or have a history of severe allergies
- Below 21 years
- Vulnerable to hypertrophic or keloid scarring
- Suffering from bleeding disorders
How soon can you see the results from Bellafill?
While you will see some improvements right after the injection, it may take up to three months to experience complete results.
How long do Bellafill results last?
While Bellafill results are known to last for 5 years, they may last for 8 to 10 years in some people. Your skin may continue to look younger and softer even after 5 years because of the supportive structure created by microspheres.
What can I expect after the treatment?
It is quite common to experience swelling, bruising, and redness at the treatment sites after the Bellafill injection. These symptoms will subside within a few days-weeks.
Are there any side effects of Bellafill?
Rarely microspheres can cause granulomas (lumps) by forming scar tissue beneath the skin. At Medrein Health and Aesthetics, we use safe techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to inject Bellafill with utmost precision for minimized risk and complications. So you don’t have to worry about the side effects.
Can Bellafill be removed if I don’t like the results?
No, Bellafill cannot be dissolved like hyaluronic acid fillers. Since it contains PMMA microspheres, which stimulate collagen production, results are permanent. If complications arise, treatments like steroid injections or corrective procedures may be needed.
Difference between Sculptra vs Bellafill?
Mechanism of Action:
Both Sculptra and Bellafill are biostimulatory fillers, meaning they work by stimulating your body’s own collagen production. However, they do this through different components.
Sculptra uses poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to gradually stimulate collagen production over time.
Bellafill uses polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres suspended in bovine collagen. The collagen provides immediate volume, while the PMMA microspheres create a support structure for ongoing collagen growth.
Longevity:
Bellafill is known for its long-lasting results, often lasting up to 5 years or more.
Sculptra’s results typically last around 2 years.
Results:
Sculptra provides gradual, subtle results that develop over several months.
Bellafill provides both immediate and long-term results. The initial collagen provides immediate volume, and the PMMA microspheres promote ongoing collagen production.
Applications:
Bellafill is also FDA approved for acne scar treatment.
Sculptra is more often used for volume loss in larger areas of the face.
Difference between Bellafill and dermal fillers (Restylane/RHA/Revanesse/Juvederm)?
Composition:
Traditional dermal fillers like Restylane, RHA, Revanesse, and Juvederm are primarily made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body that attracts and retains moisture.
Bellafill, as mentioned, is composed of PMMA microspheres and bovine collagen.
Mechanism of Action:
HA fillers provide immediate volume by adding hyaluronic acid to the skin. The body eventually metabolizes the HA, and the results are temporary.
Bellafill stimulates your body’s own collagen production for long-lasting results.
Longevity:
HA fillers typically last from 6 to 18 months, depending on the specific product and individual.
Bellafill’s results can last for 5 years or more.
Results:
HA fillers provide immediate results.
Bellafill provides immediate volume and continued improvement over time.
Reversibility:
HA fillers are able to be reversed with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
Bellafill is not reversible.
