Living and working in Flower Mound
Flower Mound sits on the north shore of Grapevine Lake, split mainly between ZIP codes 75022 to the west and south and 75028 through the center and east of town. Lakeside DFW, a newer waterfront development of shops and residences, runs along the lake itself, and the older streets near Murrell Park and Twin Coves Marina sit closer to the water’s public access points. Inland, Parker Square and the Riverwalk retail corridor along Long Prairie Road carry most of the shopping and dining, and Flower Mound Towne Crossing adds another cluster at the Cross Timbers and Long Prairie intersection. The town’s namesake landmark, a twelve-acre prairie remnant called The Flower Mound, sits at the corner of FM 3040 and FM 2499.
It’s a family town built around its parks: nearly 1,000 acres of parkland, more than 50 parks, and the Northshore Trail running along the lake. Population has grown past 80,000, and weekends tend to run toward youth sports, the trail system, and the water, not a downtown core. Summer on the lake means boat ramps, swimming coves and long afternoons in full sun from May through September.
Grapevine Lake sits between Flower Mound and Southlake, so there is no straight line across: the drive goes around the east end of the water. It runs south on Long Prairie Road (FM 2499) into Grapevine, then west on SH-114, about 20 to 25 minutes from most of Flower Mound. The lake-side neighborhoods near Lakeside DFW and Murrell Park sit closest to that route; the drive runs a few minutes longer from the northern part of town. Driving in from Flower Mound: FAQs
What’s the fastest way to the clinic from the Lakeside DFW side of town?
Take Long Prairie Road (FM 2499) south to SH-114 toward Southlake. From the Lakeside DFW and Murrell Park area, that’s typically the most direct version of the drive, about 20 minutes door to door with normal traffic.
Does the drive take longer from the northern part of Flower Mound?
A little. From neighborhoods farther from the lake, Cross Timbers Road (FM 1171) to Long Prairie Road is the more common route into SH-114, which runs closer to 25 minutes than 20, depending on the time of day.
Can I get an appointment in before a weekend at the lake?
Yes, a Friday afternoon appointment fits a consultation or treatment in before a weekend on the water. Medrein is open Mon–Fri 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
Is Murrell Park or Twin Coves on the way to the clinic?
Not directly. Murrell Park and Twin Coves Marina sit on the north shore of the lake, and the route to the clinic heads south on Long Prairie Road toward SH-114, away from the park entrances, so a clinic visit and a lake trip are usually two separate stops.
